Bobby Joe Austin, 59, of Venia, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Born July 30, 1948 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Myrtle Austin. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, he was a graduate of Council High School and was of the Christian faith. He was a disabled United States Army veteran and had served as a mechanic in Korea.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Maxwell Austin; and four sisters, infant Juanita Austin, Maudeen Combs, Vilinie Hess and Lorene Taylor.
She is survived by five brothers, Eugene Austin and wife, Trula and Donald Austin and wife, Betty, of Venia, Harold Austin and Carson Austin and wife, Keshia, of Council, Billy Ray Austin and wife, Bonnie, of Drill; three sisters, Betty Harris and husband, Russell, of Venia, Lynda Wallace of Honaker and Catherin Johnson and husband, Earl, of Council, who were his caregivers; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday in Honaker with the Rev. Kyle Ratliff officiating. Burial followed in the Austin Cemetery at Venia. Military graveside honors were conducted by American Legion Post 164 of Grundy.
Pallbearers were Billy White, Earl Johnson, Robert Johnson, Mark Austin, Tony Austin, Keith Wallace, Toby Wallace and Doug Ball.
Honorary pallbearers were Toby and Della Proffitt, Diane Hale, Dr. Ernest Henry, Mickey Joe Compton, Douglas Johnson, Ryan Johnson, the staff of Russell County Dialysis Center and the staff of Russell County Home Health.
