He was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Haskell County. He married Edith Belle Raney Oct. 18, 1931, in Portales, N.M. She died Feb. 20, 1996. He attended school in Lubbock. He worked for J.D. Leftwich Construction and Bundock Construction Company. He built several buildings for Sandia Laboratories for Nuclear Research with 10-foot thick concrete walls. He built several Texas Tech buildings and the Plains National Bank on 50th and University. He was a member of the Westwood Evangelism Center and the Carpenters Union.
He was preceded in death by four brothers C.P. Austin; Alvie Austin; Cecil Austin and B.T. Austin and two sisters, Viola Walker and Serena Johnston
Survivors include a son, Walter of El Paso; a daughter, Pearl Barnett of Andrews; six brothers, W.A. and Donis, both of Houston, Partin of Missouri, Russell and Donal, both of Lubbock, and Guy of Farwell; three sisters, Margaret Watts of Phoenix, Ariz., Emma Powell of Levelland and Meretta Houlette of El Paso; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
