Alice Marie Augustyn, 91, of Loup City, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.

Alice was born on Dec. 4, 1919, on a farm near Farwell, the daughter of John P. and Elizabeth C. (Kalkowski) Gudenrath.

Alice was united in marriage to Alfonso J. "Al" Augustyn on Oct. 29, 1940, at Loup City. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2000.

Alice is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, James Augustyn of Lincoln, Andrew and Jody Augustyn and Arnold Augustyn, all of Loup City; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Gene Wood of Long Grove, IL, Rita and Roger Goldfish of Ord, Mary and Ron Sporcic of Papillion, Vivian and William Howard of Lincoln, and Carol and Albert Krueger of Gibbon, 16 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Alice attended country school near Oak Creek and worked for families in the Farwell area. She would clean house, care for their children and cook for their families and thrashing crews. At the age of 16 she moved to Loup City where she worked for Dr. Amick and later at Lewandowski's Store.

After her marriage to Al, she worked along side her husband as they farmed in the Loup City area for many years. After Al's death she continued to live in her home until Dec. 2010, when she moved to the Rose Lane Home, where she lived the rest of her life.

She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Council of Catholic Women, Rosary Sodality, Prayer Chain and she and Al were money counters for many years. She was also a former member of a local extension club.

Alice loved gardening, raising flowers, embroidery, cooking, baking, playing cards and made quilts and baby quilts for all of her family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

In addition to her husband, Al, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Louis and Raymond Gudenrath.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Loup City, NE.
