Hilda M. Augspurger, 82, died at 4:34 a.m. Friday (April 4, 1997) at BroMenn Lifecare Center.
She was born October 2, 1914, the daughter of William J. and Emma Stappenbeck Alwes. She married Lloyd Augspurger June 7, 1934, at Danvers, Illinois. He died October 30, 1985.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn McElroy, a son, Roger Augspurger, two sisters, Mabel Reum and Evelyn Fairbanks, two brothers, Earl Alwes and Melvin "Pete" Alwes, a son-in-law, Winford McElroy, a daughter-in-law, Judy Augspurger, seven grandchildren, Sherri McElroy, Scott McElroy, Gregg McElroy, Todd McElroy, Tami Reif, Dee Hacker and Amy Augspurger and six great-grandchildren.and Brittany McElroy.
She also was preceded in death by a one sister, Pauline Meseke and one great-granddaughter, Kelly Hacker.
Mrs. Augspurger and her husband were the the owners of Augspurger Grocery in Carlock for 20 years. After selling the store, she was employed at the Woolen Mill Store, Normal, the Hen House, Carlock and at the elementary school in Carlock as a school lunch monitor for 12 years until her retirement in February.
She was a member, a Sunday school teacher, an organist and a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the Zion Lutheran Church of Danvers and a member of the Carlock Senior Citizens. Over the years she had made over 500 quilts for
the Lutheran World Relief.
