Paula Mary (Michniewicz) Auclair passed away surrounded by her family on May 10, 2011 after a heroic 30-year battle with cancer. She was 62.

Paula was born on August 16, 1948 in Worcester to Ralph Brody and Lillian Michniewicz, and grew up in South Grafton. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Worcester and attended Worcester State College.
Paula married Richard Joseph Auclair in 1971 and they relocated to Sandwich in 1976. While raising their two children, Paula worked for the Town of Sandwich and Cape Cod Community College for many years. Upon retirement from the college, she fulfilled her dream of starting an antiques business.

Always ready for travel and adventure, Paula cherished her frequent trips to the Caribbean with family and friends. She loved the beach, gardening, antiquing, and watching the Patriots on Sundays. Paula was the social hub of the bustling Michniewicz and Auclair families and enjoyed entertaining on holidays and special occasions with her legendary macaroni and cheese. She was a best friend and second mother to many and enjoyed helping others. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her bravery, optimism, infectious love of life, warm smile, twinkling blue eyes, generosity, and fun-loving spirit.

Paula is survived by her loving family: her husband of 40 years, Richard “Dick” Auclair of Sandwich; her daughter, Jessica Auclair and her partner Casey Laris of San Diego; her son, Christopher Auclair and his fiancée Kimberly Vachula of West Dennis; and her four brothers: Ralph “Skip” Michniewicz and his wife Theresa of South Grafton, Roger Michniewicz and his wife Anne of East Sandwich, Richard Michniewicz and his wife Mary of Sterling, and David Michniewicz and his wife Nancy of Brewster. Paula was a loving Auntie to many nieces and nephews and a beloved sister-in-law to the Auclair siblings.

A memorial service will be held at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (at Route 151), Mashpee, MA, 02649. A service will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
