William E. Auchey, of Spring Grove, departed this life April 17 just two days prior to what would have been his and his dear wife's 55th wedding anniversary.

He was one of 12 children of the late Claude L. and Ellen Rodgers Auchey.

After attending Eichelberger High School, Mr. Auchey enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Korean Conflict. He remained in the Naval Reserves until 1959.

William had been employed by the Caterpillar company in York for 26 years. In the 1970's, he was the owner of Auchey's Esso on Carlisle Street in Hanover. Most recently he had been employed by the Klondike Ice Cream company. He was a faithful and active member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in Hanover, presently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of the Adult Sunday School. He had also served on the church council.

As his sons grew up, Mr. Auchey had been a Cub Master for Spring Grove Troop 30 and later a Scout Committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 30. He was also a member of the Menges Mills Horse, Steam and Gas Association, Mason Dixon Historical Society, Inc., American Legion Post #14, VFW Post #2506, the National AARP, and a lifetime member of the Porters Sideling Community Fire Company.

He was the loving husband of Diane M. (Feeser) Auchey with whom he would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on April 19, 2008, and surviving, in addition to her, are his sons, Gregg A. Auchey and wife, Deborah of Gettysburg, and Scott A. Auchey and wife, Kathleen of Thomasville; his grandchildren, Chad Auchey, Laura Auchey, Shawn Auchey, Amanda Wildasin, Ben Auchey and Sierra Aquino; his great-grandchildren, Liliana Auchey, Dylan Wildasin, and Jamie Bruce Aquino; his brothers, Fred Auchey of York, Dale Auchey of Dillsburg, and Richard Auchey of Abbottstown; and his sisters, Pearl Resh of York, Betty Glass of Edgegrove, and Lena Reichart of Hanover.

His son, Bruce A. Auchey, preceded him in death on November 22, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Norman, Claude, Irvin, and Robert Auchey; and a sister, Thelma Auchey.

Burial was with full military honors provided by the Allied Veterans Council Honor Guard.
