WENATCHEE - Charles H. "Chuck" Atwood, 77, an orchardist and lifelong resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Monday, July 31, 1995, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1917, to Paul and Bessie (Pfrangle) Atwood at Wenatchee. He attended South Wenatchee School, Wenatchee Junior High School and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1934. He then worked on the family ranch until purchasing his own orchard in 1939.
He married Rowena Courtney on July 1, 1940, at Everett, and they lived on their ranch in Wenatchee. Mr. Atwood and his father consolidated their orchards and formed Atwood Orchards in 1956. Mr. Atwood operated his orchard until the time of his death.
He was a charter member of Eastmont Presbyterian Church, where he served as treasurer, trustee and elder. He helped construct the church and worked on Tall Timber Ranch at Lake Wenatchee. Mr. Atwood was a board member and past director of the South Wenatchee School District, a member of Stemilt Growers and had worked on fund raising for the YMCA. He had been a board member and was past chairman of the Soil Conservation Service and was a life member of the Washington Horticultural Association.
Survivors include his wife, at home; his son, Myron of Wenatchee; three daughters, Mrs. Jean (Paula) Cinecoe of Hamilton, Va., Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Weir of San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Steve (Marsha) Rolfs of Chelan; two sisters, Ruth Kane of Wenatchee and Sally Merriman of Chelan; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and granddaughter.
Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
