George Douglas Atwood, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and loving friend, passed away at his home in Spanish Fork on June 20, 2006.
Born August 23, 1924, in Midvale, Utah to Walter A. and Hannah Ellen Chadwick Atwood, the last of 15 children. He was raised in Spanish Fork Canyon and attended school in Thistle and Spanish Fork.
He married Christie J. Sorensen on April 5, 1945 in Provo, Utah and the marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on April 30, 1958. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in April.
He served in the U. S. Army in World War II and was employed at Utah State Hospital as Grounds Supervisor for 32 years, retiring in August, 1986. He enjoyed oil painting, writing his history in poetry, fishing, and time spent at his Indianola retreat.
Active in the LDS church, he served as Stake clerk, Ward clerk. Bishop, and in many Scouting positions. He loved the youth and especially the elderly people. He taught his sons and grandsons the value of hard, honest work.
