Mrs. Mary Jane Atwell, widow of James A. Atwell, died at her home, 25 Royce Ave., Middletown, N.Y., on Saturday evening, May 18.

Pneumonia following an attack of gall bladder trouble caused her death.

Mrs. Atwell was born at Belfast, Ireland, March 5th, 1853, a daughter of Clement Curlette and Violet Waters Curlette. The family settled at Mountaindale when Mrs. Atwell was very young and her early life was spent here. After her marriage her home was on a farm near Woodridge, from which place she moved to Middletown twelve years ago.

She is remembered as a woman of high ideals and was always deeply interested in the temperance cause. Her husband died at Woodridge, September 15, 1911.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters: William C. at home; Harry H. of Waterbury, Conn.; Mrs. Katherine I. Jones of Melrose Heights, Mass. and Florence, wife of E. J. Kelly of Middletown. She also leaves ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother William Curlette of Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Hanna of Rock Hill, and Mrs. Lila Lynch, of Middletown. Funeral services were held at the Webb Horton Memorial church, Middletown, at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning; conducted by the Rev. Dr. E. Van Dyke Wight.

Interment, in charge of Mr. Hasbrouck of Middletown, was had in the family plot in Glen Wild cemetery.

Oldest son Samuel died October 16, 1914, in Kansas, of injuries sustained when kicked by a horse. He had lived in Kansas for about 15 years and was survived by a wife (Rose) and five children (Jennie, Florence, Samuel Jr., Ross, and Anna).
