JESSIE ATWELL ROTH

Jessie Margaret Gilchrist Atwell Roth was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the second of five daughters born to Frank and Anna Gilchrist.

Jessie graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1927, and attended business college in Chariton. She married Herman E. Atwell on July 6, 1919 in Chariton. To this union were born Joann, Alan and Richard Atwell. Herman preceded her in death in 1975.

On Aug. 31, 1980, Jessie and Robert J. Roth were united in marriage in Altoona. They resided in Iowa Falls until 2001, when they moved to Clear Lake. Jessie was preceded in death by her second husband, Robert, in March, 2005.

Jessie was a 65-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.

Jessie passed away Sept. 1, 2005 at the age of 95 at the IOOF Home in Mason City, where she has resided since August, 2004. Jessie will be buried in the Chariton Cemetery next to her first husband, Herman Atwell. A visitation will preceded a graveside service on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton.

Left to mourn her passing are Alan and Margherita Atwell, Clear Lake; Richard and Joyce Atwell, Des Moines; two grandsons, three granddaughters, three great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters; one sister, Phyllis Kane, Cylinder, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Joann Simcoke; and one grandson, Alan Atwell Jr. and three sisters.
