Anthony F. "Tony" Atkinson, 75, of Martinsburg, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at his home.
Born September 4, 1931 in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Robert William and Estella Breig Atkinson.
He was retired from the Berkeley County Board of Education where he served as a counselor at Martinsburg High School.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U. S. Army Signal Corp. He served on PROJECT CAUSE which was President Johnson's first anti-poverty campaign.
He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and a lifetime member of Council #10756, Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nettie Gould Atkinson; one son, Erich William Gould Atkinson of Baker, WV; three daughters, Mary Margaret Zygmunt of Frederick, MD, Anne Marie Ambuul and Katherine Alison MacKinnon both of
Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren and two sisters, Gertrude Isabel Atkinson of Martinsburg and Mary Margaret Hughes of Winchester.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter William, Robert Edward and Joseph Alphonsus Atkinson and two sisters, Theresa Marie and Ruth Marie Atkinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday,December 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Shoda, Celebrant. Interment prayers will be said in Rosedale Cemetery with military graveside honors.
