Charles Atkinson III, 4, died Monday, September 8, 1997, at the LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis as a result of an accident.
Services were held Saturday, September 13, 1997, at Clark's Chapel M. B. Church in Okolona with the Rev. L. C. Cook officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his mother, Myra Stevens of Tupelo; two brothers, Midrecus and Denarius Stevens, both of Tupelo;
his grandparents, Elizabeth and Jessie Stevens; his great-grandparents,Jessie Stevens, Sr. and Earline Stevens;four aunts, Nekita Stevens, SHawanna Stevens, Mary Forshee and Tammy Gunn, all of Okolona;one uncle Chad Atkinson of Okolona.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Atkinson II, and a great-grandfather.
Pallbearers were Anthony Mitchell, Victor Hill, Ceasar Williams, Bobby Sykes, Henry Atkinson and Mack Hampton.

Okolona child dies following Saturday auto accident
Okolona - A four year old Okolona child dies Sunday following a car accident Saturday afternoon.
Okolona Police Officer Keith Roberson said Charles Atkinson, III, four year old, died Sunday after around 3:30 at LeBonhour Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tn. from injuries sustained in a car accident on Carter Street Saturday afternoon.
Roberson said Atkinson was struck by a vehicle driven by Melissa D Rea, 21, of Okolona. Roberson said witnesses at the scene stated that the child ran out in front of Rea's vehicle.
Atkinson was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and the flown to Memphis, where he passed away.
