James Robert Atkinson, 72, of Joseph Street, Valley View, Rayland, Ohio, died June 17, 2005.
He was born Aug. 15, 1932.

He was a member of U.S.A.F.A.A. and a flight instructor. Jim was an active and devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Martins Ferry. He was a Lay reader and an integral worker for the Outreach Ministry.

Jim loved planes and flying. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the W. V. Wing Civil Air Patrol. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Jim was a retiree of the A.E. P. Cardinal Plant, Brilliant and a member of the following organizations: The American Legion, Osiris Shriners, The Grand Lodge of West Virginia, and Scottish Rite Mason.

Jim was a beloved husband of Elva Marie (Amici) Atkinson; a beloved father of Susan Marie Diemler of Yorkville and Robert Alan Atkinson and Rhonda of Carrollton; beloved pappy of eight grandchildren: Rob and Rhonda's children: Alexander James (A.J.), Benjamin, Veronica, Jonathan, Samuel and Victoria; Susan, and the late Joe Diemler's children: Noah and Sophie; and a step-granddaughter, Leigh Ann Diemler; beloved brother of William Atkinson and Erna of Colorado and Edward Atkinson and Beth of Indiana; Uncle Jim to James and Michael Atkinson; beloved son of the late Robert and Mary Atkinson, formerly of Wheeling, W. Va.

Visitation on Monday, June 20, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, Ohio.

Friends then received on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Martins Ferry with Rev. Barry Cotter officiating and a luncheon following.

Military services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Martins Ferry by Belmont County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, W. Va.
