Clifton Buck Atkinson was the son of Collin Atkinson and Ellen Pearl Atkinson of Hartsville, South Carolina. He was married to Rosemary Lloyd in 1948. They had two children, Ellen Pearl Sayre Mills and Alma Jean Atkinson. Clifton was born and raised in Hartsville, SC. He and Rosemary divorced in the early 1950's and he then moved to Norfolk, Virginia to live with his daughter Alma Jean Atkinson. He worked in Norfolk, VA in the shipyard for many years. He passed away from lung cancer in 1979.
