Funeral services were held at Houston Funeral Home October 29 for Irby Atkinson, Sr., 83, who died October 28 at Houston Hospital. Interment was at Houston Cemetery with Father Charles Mahry and the Rev. Larry Taylor presiding.
Atkinson, the son of John Landrum and Mattie Pleasant Davis, was a lifelong resident of Van Vleet. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Van Vleet Baptist Church. Atkinson was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marie Martin Atkinson; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Bonds of Van Vleet; one son, Irby Atkinson Jr. of Columbus; one sister, Mrs. Doyle Stubblefield of Houston; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Rex Smith, T A Marion, Roy P Davis, David Horn, Dennis Daughty, and DeWayne McQuary.
