SGT US ARMY KOREA VIETNAM

Gentry P. "Chet" Atkins, 71, of Doyle Road, who retired as a staff sergeant after 20 years in the Army, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City. Mr. Atkins was born in Drybranch, W.Va., and moved to this area in 1968 from Petaluma, Calif. He played the guitar, banjo, and keyboard and sang country, blue grass and gospel music at recreational vehicle parks. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Margaret; two sons, Paul, DeLand, and Dennis, Lake Mary; two daughters, Linda Atkins , Apopka, and Joanne Anderson, Charlotte, N.C.; and two sisters, Vivian Russell, New Smyrna Beach, and Beulah Cowan, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.
