Mr. Clarence "Chicken" Atkins of Oakland, California passed away at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. A native of Houston, Texas, he attended public schools in Port Arthur, Texas until 1945 before moving to Oakland, California at an early age. He returned to Port Arthur in the late 1980's until his demise.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel, followed by the funeral service, with Rev. Dencil Wheaton officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston, Texas, under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Survivors include; brother Henry Arms of Los Angeles, California; cousins Lois and A. L. Stephens of Port Arthur, Texas, Don Moore of Houston; special relatives Terrell Rucker of Atlanta, Georgia, Andrea Arms of Los Angeles, California, Ron Stephens of Houston, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews; devoted friends James and Mary Zeno.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, parents Emma Lee and Clarence Atkins, Sr.,beloved Aunt Bessie Martin, and cousin Harold "Hammerhead" Martin.
