THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, July 20, 1976: “Charles C. Atkins of Rt. 4, Paris, died at 3:30 p. m. Monday at his home. Services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Leverett and Steele Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Atkins was born Sept. 5, 1919 in Forney, Okla., son of Samuel Atkins and Katie (Freeland) Atkins. He recently moved here from Abilene and was a highway construction contractor. He married Miss Jeanette Proffitt on April 26, 1940 in Carlsbad, N. M. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II having served in the Army. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. T. H. Fombey of Cooper; one son, Richard L. Atkins of Grand Junction, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Pat) Colley of Fort Hood; one brother, R. W. Atkins of Grand Prairie; and four grandsons. Tommy, Sam and Stephen Atkins, all of Grand Junction, Colo, and Chris Colley of Fort Hood.“

Atkins of Rt. 4, Paris were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Leverett and Steele Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. James Semple of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Moody, Claude Smith, Richard Lang, W. T. Rainey, Pete Sanders and Travis Coston. Mr. Atkins died Monday at his home.“
