ATKINS -- James "Jim" Ethie, Jr., age 91, passed away on June 24, 2002, at his home in Jenks after a long illness. Born August 30, 1910 in Little Rock, AR, he was the son of James, Sr., and Laura Gertrude Atkins. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Ninde in Jenks. Service will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at River Oaks Christian Church, Jenks, Rev. Harold Phillips officiating, burial at Park Grove Cemetery, Broken Arrow. James is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Helen Raye, and their daughter, Mary Jame and husband, Kevin Bodenhamer of Jenks. Preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Huff Atkins, and survived by their children, Jon Stephen Atkins of Jacksonville, FL, Rodger Dow Atkins and wife, Melanie of Dalton, GA, and Linda Marlain and husband, Jerry Nelson of Gatesville, TX. Surviving grandchildren are Matthew Bodenhamer of Jenks, Sarah Hall of Stephenville, TX, Emily Sides and husband, Jesse, and Winston Hall of San Angelo, TX. Surviving siblings are Dorothy Lee Payne of Gatesville, TX and Gerald Rieff Atkins of Weldon, CA. His career spanned service in the United States Navy during World War II, manager of the Jenks Lumber Company, self employed as Jim's Home Supply and Treasurer of Jenks Public Schools. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Francis Hospice, 6600 S. Yale, Tulsa, OK 74136. The family wishes to thank them for their care and support. (Tulsa World)
