Glen Carroll Atkins, owner of G. C. & Company Salon and Spa, in Jonesboro, LA, died Tuesday March 7, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, two sons, Bryan Phillip Atkins and James W. "Jim" Atkins, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Atkins, and one sister, Billie Jean Otwell and husband Max, all of Ruston, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. and Willine Atkins, one sister, Alene Atkins Allen, and one brother, James David Atkins. He was born September 29, 1948, in Ruston, LA.

Glen was a life long resident of Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. After his marriage to Suzanne Box, he established and continued to solely own G. C. & Company Salon. He was a talented cosmetologist and stylist, with international experience. He has been described as a creator of trends rather than a follower. His knowledge of the science behind the chemicals used to perm and color hair has caused him to be sought after, for his skill and knowledge, by the billion dollar conglomerates which control the cosmetic industry. He worked for a major color company for 20 years and was the color director and he was a published designer for 20 years. Glen trained personally with Vidal Sasoon in 1975, and later with Paul Mitchell and Jean Bra at Neil Corporation in Baton Rouge, LA. He has attended and taught at seminars and classes in Paris, France; London, England; New York City, and throughout other cities and countries in the United States and Europe, receiving numerous awards and certificates. Over the last 20 years, he has been a world class designer and instructor for the Tressa Corporation, teaching seminars throughout the United States and Europe. He had a unique talent for making people look good and feel pampered while in his salon. He loved his work, but he loved his family even more. He was spiritually very dedicated and had a zest for life which will be greatly missed by those who knew him, loved him, and worked with him.

Services are under the direction of Owens Funeral Home in Ruston, LA, with the Rev. Mark Briggs and the Rev. Bo Nicholson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Best, Zachary Best, Matt Ferguson, Cleve Robison, James Beal, and Kane Ferguson.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Cathedral of Praise Worship Center, Farmerville Highway, Ruston, LA. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at the Church. Interment will follow immediately in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
