Charles D. Atherton (1934 - 2011)

Charles D. Atherton, 77, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at home. Graveside service: 4 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Services will be conducted, and pallbearers furnished, by Hurst Masonic Lodge #1387. Memorials: May be made to Vitas Hospice.

Charles was born in Fort Worth to Louis and Elnora Atherton on Sept. 7, 1934. He attended Diamond Hill schools and Texas A&M University. Charles was a retired construction superintendent and also worked several years for General Dynamics, both in Fort Worth and in Taiwan. He was a charter member and a past master of Hurst Masonic Lodge #1387. Charles also served with 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard.

Survivors: Wife, Alvaretta Beverly Atherton of Hurst; son, Charles Franklin Atherton of Talledega, Ala.; daughters, Kala Dee Mechler of San Antonio and Karen Sydell Klaeger of Houston; grandchildren, William Huckabee, Daniel, Frank II, Shane and Gus Atherton, Kaci and Ashlee Klaeger, Mellissa and Eric Mechler; great-granddaughter, Dora Huckabee; sister, Sydell Easley Norris of Hurst; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
