Mrs. Ates was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Iness Gregory; her husband, William Silas (Si) Ates Jr.; infant twins, Billy and Beverly Ates; four brothers, Herman, Belton, Edward and Hudson Gregory; three sisters, Mabel Lewis, Delma Harper and Cozine Cook; and one son-in-law, Madison (Matt) Crews.
Survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Melonee Crews of Moss Point, Charmane (John) Donnaway of Vancleave, Miss. and Lashunda (Davie) Taulbee of Hurley, Miss.; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Emily) Donnaway, Trey Taulbee, Brett Taulbee, Lindsey (Craig) Broadus and Tonya (Loren) Downs; seven great-grandchildren: Connor Donnaway, Dylan and Drew McDonald, Jenna and Jaedyn Broadus and Tyler and Shelby Downs. She also leaves one sister, Jaunita (Carl) Hearndon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Ates was eagerly awaiting the birth of her great-granddaughter, due in December. She also cared for two children in their preschool years that she loved as her own, Bonnie Leighann Williams and Lela Reyes. She was also blessed with Delores Conkin, her devoted and loving caregiver.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at 12 noon from Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Miss. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours before services. Rev. Bill Batron will officiate and burial will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens in Escatawpa, Miss.
Pallbearers will be John Donnaway, Nicholas Donnaway, Davie Taulbee, Trey Taulbee, Brett Taulbee and Loren Downs.
