Tony Walter Atencio
Tony Walter Atencio, age 84, passed away January 30, 2000 quietly at home after a long illness.
Tony was born April 15, 1915 in El Rito, New Mexico to Placido Atencio and Mary Lopez Atencio. Married Olga Amelia Shortt August 27, 1937, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on October 20, 1972.
Survived by his older brother, Pete, Union City, California; and sister, Rose Gallegos, Kearns. Also survived by five children, Linda, Salt Lake; Barbara (Gary) Knowles, Evergreen, Colorado; Micheal (Marilyn), West Jordan; Steven, Salt Lake; and Sylvia (Curtis) Tatton, West Valley. Tony has 12 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1953, Tony was always interested in providing for his family. He was a veteran of World War II. He was employed for 27 years with Kennecott Copper Corp. retiring at age 67.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
Thanks to all those who have cared for him these last few years, especially Sheila, Darlene and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000 at 11am at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East, Murray where friends and family may visit between 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 and again one hour prior to service on February 2, 2000. Interment, Murray City Cemetery
