ATCHLEY, JOHN ELDON - age 71, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 after a three year bout with a form of pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 21, 1941, John was a graduate of Holston High School Class of 1959 and attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Following his graduation from the University of Tennessee, he married Sandra Rose in 1965 and they made their home in Kingsport, Tennessee where John worked as an engineer at Eastman Chemical Company from 1966 until his retirement in 1999. He was a longstanding member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. While in Kingsport, John was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport where he taught Sunday School and drove the church van for the elderly. After his retirement in 1999, John and Sandra moved back to Knoxville, Tennessee to make their home where they became active members of First Baptist Church of Knoxville and the Bob Money Sunday School Class. One of John's passions throughout life was his love of cars, computers, and the internet. After retiring, he continued with his passions by implementing internet sales at West Chevrolet in Alcoa and later, Smart Car Center with Mercedes Benz in Knoxville. He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Elder Atchley, father, Fred Eldon Atchley and a brother, David Atchley. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Sandra Rose Atchley of Knoxville; daughter, Ann Atchley Ruble and husband Forrest Greer Ruble of Huntsville, Alabama; son, John Eldon Atchley, Jr. and wife Amanda Wallace Atchley of Brentwood, Tennessee; grandchildren, John Forrest and Annalee of Huntsville, Alabama and Ben and Ellie of Brentwood. A Service to Celebrate John's life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 in the chapel of Rose Mortuary officiated by Dr. William D. Shiell and Reverend Bob Money. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Tennessee, 212 South Peters Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37923. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the mortuary. Online condolences may be extended at Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
