Leonard "Paul" Atchison, son of Orvle and Pearl Alexander Atchison, was born April 26, 1923, near Macomb, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, March 21, 2003, in Glenwood Healthcare, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, ten months, and twenty-five days.
In May of 1951, he was united in marriage to Minnie Marie Brazeal, and to this union one daughter was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Minnie, on December 31, 1997; a brother, Silas Atchison; a sister, Ruby Atchison; and a half-sister, Rachel Babcock.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Shirley Diane Atchison, of Independence, Missouri; four brothers, Arthur Atchison, of Macomb, Missouri, Kenneth Atchison, of Deming, New Mexico, Noah Atchison, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Dewey Atchison, and his wife, Shirley, of Branson, Missouri; three sisters, Dorothy Atchison, of Seymour, Missouri, Evelyn Atchison, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Marie Douglas, and her husband, Ernest, of Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Louise Atchison, of San Luis Obispo, California; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Macomb community. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II, and then made his home in Iowa for the next several years. While living in Iowa, he was employed by the Oscar Mayer Company and James Manville Manufacturers. He and Minnie then made their home in Independence, Missouri for most of their married years and lovingly raised their daughter. For thirty-six years, Paul was employed by the W. E. Isle Manufacturing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. In October of 2002, he moved to Seymour, Missouri, to be near some of his family.
Paul had made his profession of belief in Christ and followed the Assembly of God faith.
He was a sports enthusiast and especially was a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them.
Paul was a loving father, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Graveside Services will be held Monday March 24, 2003 at 1:00p.m. in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 2-3:00p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, Missouri.
