Elijah was a son of Nancy (Houghton) & Elijah Astle. He was married to Hannah Weeks Johnson on November 16, 1851. One of their children was Herbert J. Astle (my g-g-Aunt's husband). In the 1880 census it states that Elijah and Herbert were "Lapadaries", which means that they were either dealers in gemstones or one who cuts, polishes or engraves gemstones. The family are buried together.
