George E. Astin Jr., well known Milton Junction man, was killed almost instantly early Monday morning when his car went out of control on Highway 59, struck a telephone pole and hurtled more than 100 feet in the air before ramming a small cottage on Clear Lake north of Milton Junction.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Milton Junction Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Tanquist officiating, and burial was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville.

George Edward Astin Jr. was born July 9, 1936, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Astin Sr. and was raised in Milton Junction. He was a 1954 graduate of Milton Union high school and had served in the Air Force from November 1955 until August, 1959. His tour of duty included Korean service.

He had been an employee of the Chevrolet plant in Janesville since his discharge from the service.

Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Mrs. Duard Severance, a niece and a nephew, and aunts and uncles.
