Joseph Irwin Askren 93, of Indianapolis, Eastside Real Estate Developer, passed away June 17, 2004. He was born June 12, 1911 in Marion County, Indiana the son of John Thomas ASKREN and Elizabeth Ethel RUARK. He was in the first graduating class at Warren Central High School in 1930 and is in the Warren Central Hall of Fame. Mr. Askren worked in Washington State in World War II working on projects assisting development of the Atomic Bomb. He owned the J.I. Askren Cabinet Co. in Indianapolis. He helped organize and was past president of the Irvington Kiwanas Club. He was a member of the Kentucky Colonels. Mr. Askren leaves behind a sister, Mary Kuhn of Columbus, OH; sister-in-laws, Mildred Askren of Lafayette, IN and Rose Mary Askren of Indianapolis; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife, Mary K. (Miles) Askren, preceded him in death.
