Obituary. Robert H. Askren was born in Adams county, Ohio, September 3, A.D. 1824, and died at his home in Jackson county, Kansas, March 13, A.D 1884, aged 59 years, 6 months and 10 days. The deceased was married to Miss Mary J. Armstrong, of Adams county, Ohio, on the 28th day of May A.D. 1846, who died May 30, A.D. 1863. And on January 6, A.D. 1864, he was married to Miss Sarah Howland, his now bereaved widow. Below I give a statement written by him, a few days before his death. He requested it to be given to the minister. "When I was about 20 years old I felt the Holy Spirit was working with my sinful spirit, and when I was 21 I gave my hand and heart to Jesus .... In 1871 I came to Kansas with my family, and then connected myself with the First Presbyterian church at Netawaka ...." The sermon was preached in the United Brethern church on the parallel, March 15, 1884 .... The Holton Recorder, March 20, 1884.
