Floyd Clark Ashton was born on Saturday; November 2, 1912, south of Beaman; Grundy County, Iowa. Floyd was the son of George and Frances (Whorrall) Ashton. He married Maxine Stull on Saturday; July 3, 1937 in Clinton; Clinton County, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday; February 19, 2005 after 67 years of marriage. Floyd attended Beaman Consolidated School, graduating in 1932. He has resided at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad; Grundy County, Iowa since March of 2003. Floyd and his brother: Don, established Aston Brother's Garage in Beaman in 1940, retiring in 1976. He was a well known mechanic. He was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church and the Beaman Lions Club. He previously served on the boards of the Beaman School, Farmer's Savings Bank and the Oakwood Golf Course. Hobbies included bowling, golf (three holes-in-one at Oakwood) and photography. His photography has preserved the history of many important Beaman and Central Iowa events and construction projects, including soldiers going off to World War II from Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Beaman gym and waterworks, many town celebrations and pow wows. His camera also took Floyd, Maxine and the girls to all of the continential United States. He and Maxine enjoyed 25 winters in Southern Texas. His love of Beaman was always evident and he and Maxine were the local historians. Floyd Clark Ashton, age 94, of Beaman, Iowa passed away on Sunday; July 15, 2007 at the Oakview Home in Conrad, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His daughters: Pat Reuter of East Moline; Rock Island County, Illinois and Linda Ashton of Chicago; Cook County, Illinois. His granddaughter: Jackie and her husband: Jim Leonard. His great grandchildren: Matthew and Hope Leonard of Bettendorf; Scott County, Iowa. Several nephews, nieces and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother: Don. May they rest in peace. A public visitation will be held on Thursday evening; July 19, 2007 at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad, Iowa from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services and a celebration of Floyd's life will be held on Friday; July 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Beaman United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Hall officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Oakland Cemetery in Beaman, Iowa. Condolences may be sent the the family through the funeral home's website at www.purseldavis.com.
