Obituary of Addie Mae Ashmore Lockwood (Austin American Statesman, Austin, Texas):
Addie Mae Ashmore Lockwood, daughter of James Melvin and Mary Etta McCullough Ashmore was born September 8, 1912 in Manor, Texas and died May 11, 2006 at her home in Wharton, Texas. She was 93. She married Henry Curtis Lockwood, Sr. on June 14, 1939 at her parents home in Carmine, Texas. They were married for 54 years. Prior to marriage, she worked for the State Highway Department in Austin. After World War II, she and her husband, owned and operated Lockwood's Grocery in Boling, Texas. After selling the Grocery Store, they owned and operated a ranch in the Boling area until retirement in 1974. Addie Mae Lockwood had been a Wharton resident for 32 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boling, the Philomathian Club, the Garden Club, and a member of the Eastern Star in Texas of which she was elected to Life Membership for long and distinguished service. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Henry C. (Bud) and Elaine Lockwood, Jr. of Aransas Pass; two grandchildren, Preston James Lockwood and Lenora Emily Lockwood of Aransas Pass; sister-in-law, Ora Lee Ashmore of Boling; five nieces, Sue Jane Ashmore (Randee) Johnson of Waco. Leesa Moreland (Dennis) Burford of Conroe, Helen (Sissy) Dodson of Austin, Hadie Lockwood (Don) Hill of Spring and Cathy Young of Austin; four nephews, Jeffery Blake (Susan) Moreland of The Woodlands, Timothy Paul (Carol) Moreland of Houston, Lanny Lockwood of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mike Young of Marble Falls. Numerous close relatives include, Peggy Mayfield Wilson of Dallas, John Ashmore of Houston, Florine Broiler of Houston and Stella Stringer of Sumner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, and two sisters. Honorary pallbearers will be her many close friends, church members, and special care givers of Mrs. Lockwood, Otis and Grace Hilderbrand, Sue and Keith Hall, Joe and Joy Bentley, Maye and Ron Reel, Seiglinda and John Derigo, Kathy, Dusty and Julie White, Evelyn Cochran, Maudie Valenta, Blanche Hlavinka, Joanne Dubois, Maxine Price, Lisa and Mike Billingsley, Lorna and Bud Horelica, Judy Jost, and Henry (Hank) and Rhonda Meyer. Funeral services for Addie Mae Lockwood will be held 10:00am Saturday, May, 13, 2006 at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, TX at 3:00pm Saturday.
