Carrie Marie Ashlin, 90, of Sugar Grove, Va., widow of Curtis G. Ashlin, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Francis Marion Manor with her daughters by her side. Mrs. Ashlin was born in Smyth County, Va. to the late John Taylor and Winnie McKinnon Taylor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Taylor Greear. Mrs. Ashlin was a master quilter and crafts person. She maintained a membership with the Methodist church while living in Wayne Michigan and Sugar Grove, Va. She served in several leadership positions with the Girl Scouts of America, United Methodist Women and Smyth County Extension Service. Mrs. Ashlin was a woman who lived with love in her heart, she lived a courageous and creative life and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis McClure, Green Valley, Ariz., Rebecca Taylor Ashlin, Green Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Ronnie Taylor and wife, Shirley, Rural Retreat, Va., James Taylor and wife, Mozelle, Baltimore, Md.; grandson, Zachary Ashlin Yunker, Boise, Idaho; nephew and niece, Bobby Greear and wife, Mary, Greensboro, N.C., Anna Vaught and husband, Johnny, Thornburg, Va.; cousins, Freda Duncan, Marion, Va., Mary Jo Phillippi, Sugar Grove, Va., Libby Prater, Christiansburg, Va. Several loving family members and friends also survive. A celebration of the life of Carrie Marie Ashlin will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family will receive friends Monday evening September 28, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bradley's Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to the Johnny Greear Memorial Foundation, 3110 North Hampton Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27408. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the Ashlin family.
