The oldest living alumni of Gosport High School, she graduated in 1930 and also graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey. She worked as a nurse at Culver Military Academy and at Children's Hospital in Winchester, Virginia. Miss Asher enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, served during World War II, and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 20 years of service. Following her military retirement, she worked at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she lived for 25 years. She was a member of the Mooresville First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marilynn Morine.
Survivors include her brother, Wilbur Asher of Mooresville; niece, Janet Gibbs; nephew, David Asher; five great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Gosport Cemetery.
