Mrs. Ashe was born on November 2, 1924 in Orangeburg County. She was the daughter of the late Patrick Louis Hughes and the late Willie Lou Binnicker Hughes. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in the Canaan Community where she was a member of the WMU and the Adult Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Woodrow Ashe, Sr., a sister, Jennie Lou Bolen and 2 brothers, John D. Hughes and Patrick Louis Hughes.
Survivors include her sons Melvin W. Ashe, Jr. (Ann) of Fayetteville, NC, Richard Ashe (Linda) of Cope, SC; grandchildren, Barbara Dalton of Fayetteville, NC, Beth Balkcum (Jon) of Willmington, NC, Mel Ashe (Toni) of Kansas City, MO, Scarlet Geddings (Wayne) of Orangeburg, SC, Josh Ashe of Cope, SC and 5 great grandchildren, David Geddings, Ashelynn Combs, Kyle Combs, Simms Balkcum and Charlotte Balkcum.
