Annola Ashcraft, 85, of John Day, died Aug. 30 at the Country Spice care facility.
A graveside service was held at the Burns Cemetery Sept. 3 with Pastor Dennis Sams of the John Day Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
Mrs. Ashcraft was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Neosho, Mo., to James Branson and Hallie (Bragg) Lloyd. She had to quit school in the third grade to help support her family.
In East Prairie, Mo., she married Herbert Ashcraft and early in their marriage they were sharecroppers and picked cotton. They later moved to Oregon, first to Seneca in 1945 and then to Canyon City in 1956 were she lived the remainder of her life. Herbert passed away in 1973 after numerous years of marriage.
She worked at many of the motels in John Day doing housekeeping; worked in the kitchen at the Blue Mountain Hospital; in the restaurant at the Sunset Inn; and also cleaned campgrounds for the Forest Service.
Mrs. Ashcraft loved gardening, yard work, growing flowers in her yard and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the John Day Garden Club, and she continued gardening until late in her years. She was also a member of the John Day Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her three sons, Bobby Gene Ashcraft of Eugene, Allen Craig Ashcraft of Mt. Vernon and Donald Ray Ashcraft of Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters and two sons.
