Derward C. Ashcraft, 78, of Sheridan died Tuesday in Little Rock. Born August 23, 1923 in Sheridan to Allie and Lillian Brewer Ashcraft. Married Frances Mitchell on August 14, 1943 in Bend, Ore. Mr. Ashcraft served in U.S. Army during WWII in the Southern Philippines Campaign. Mr. Ashcraft was a civil engineer with Arkansas Highway Department for 35 years. He was a member of the Pine Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church, V.F.W. Post #4507 and attended Sheridan First Baptist Church.
He was preceded to be with the Lord by his wife, Frances on May 30, 1999 and a son-in-law, Donald E. Galloway on Jan. 26, 1987. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Kathy Ashcraft, Sheridan; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kay Berry, Little Rock, Sandy Galloway, Sheridan, Kitty and David Smith, Benton; brother, Gene Ashcraft, North Little Rock; six grandchildren and spouses, Christy and Todd Smurl, Little Rock, Steven and Stacie Ashcraft, Conway, Kelly and Drennon Scott, Sheridan, Jessica and Shawn Lafferty, Conway, Ben Smith, Todd and Micki Smith, Benton; six greatgrandchildren, Brittanie and Paige Ashcraft, Conway, Carrington Grace Smurl, Little Rock, Ashley Scott, North Little Rock, Faith and Justin Smith, Benton.
