FILMS' LURE FATAL
HOLD YOUTHS IN BRUTAL MURDER GLASGOW, Mo., May 10-A liking for movies and the habit of coming here from her farm home every Saturday night to see one, today were believed the beginning of a chain of events leading to the brutal murder of fourteen-year-old Daisy Ashby. The body of the girl, missing since February 2 was found in a brush pile near the highway a half mile from the home where she kept house for her father. Virtually nothing remained but the skeleton and some clothes which served to identify the body. Chariton County authorities are holding William DeWitt and Fred Hager, young men who live near Gilliam, Mo., in connection with the murder. They were seen talking to the girl on the streets here the Saturday night she disappeared. Both declare they left the girl in Glasgow, and did not see her later. The father, who usually took the girl home from the movies, failed to see her that night, and drove home, concluding the girl would stay here with her aunt. Instead, the girl borrowed a lantern and started to walk the mile and a half to her home alone. The father has suspected foul play ever since the girl disappeared and Dewitt and Hager were arrested two weeks after the disappearance, but were released after questioning. They were rearrested when the body was found.

FIND MISSING GIRL DEAD
Daisy Ashby, Fourteen, Glasgow, Mo.,
Found Under Pile of Brush Near Hom GLASGOW, Mo., May 9-With a belt from her coat tight about the neck Daisy Ashby, fourteen, who disappeared here February 2, was found under a pile of brush a half mile from her home on the Salisbury highway here today, dead.
Police arrested William Dewitt, a laborer, and held him for questioning. A warrant was issued for Fred Hager, believed to be in Jefferson City. Both men are from Gilliam, Mo., and are said to have been talking to the girl shortly before she disappeared. Death was apparently due to strangulation (sic), physicians said, altho the body was too far decomposed to determine positively.
