VIRGINIA BEACH - Charles Edward Ashburner, 75, passed away Feb. 12, 2010.
Mr. Ashburner was born in Norfolk to the late Haskins H. Ashburner and Frances Virginia Rush. He was a teacher and retired from the Rockville, Md., school system after 30 years. Mr. Ashburner was a member of Christ & St. Luke's Episcopal Church and most recently Galilee Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. While at St. Luke's, he helped care for the sick, worked in the kitchen and helped the homeless. His life was a blessing to many a friend and associate and he leaves a wonderful legacy of generosity and caring for others.
Survivors include his sister, Susan C. Cooper; his brother, Robert H. Ashburner; his dear friend, Doug Garvey; and his beloved niece, Gretchen Cooper.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
