William W. Ashburne, Jr., 85, of Ladson, widower of Dorothy Sorrels Ashburne, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Trident Medical Center.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Cryptside Service on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Receiving of friends will be from 10 o'clock until hour of service at the Mausoleum.
Mr. Ashburne was born December 4, 1926 in Lexington, VA, son of the late William W. Ashburne, Sr. and Ruby Campbell Ashburne. Mr. Ashburne served in the United States Navy and retired after twenty years of service as a Senior Chief. He also retired from Civil Service as a Load Planning Master at the Charleston Air Force Base. He was of Southern Baptist Faith.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Ste. 504, North Charleston, SC 29406 or Crowfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 Hunters Lane, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
Survivors include two sons; W. Stan Ashburne (Joy) of Goose Creek and Gary Lee Ashburne of Norfolk, VA, two grandchildren; Amy Lucas (Rick) and Kristin Sheppard (Joey), five great grandchildren; Landon, Laura & Lawson Lucas and Anna Joy & Jenna Lee Sheppard and a special friend; Orapin Smith.
