Mrs. Ashburn was born in Winston-Salem on August 30, 1931, to Robert F. and Ollie Kates Wilcox.
She attended James Gray High School and the Giesle Institute of Early Childhood Education.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ann Ashburn Ingram; and a beloved grandson, Clay Randolph Phillips III.
Mrs. Ashburn is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Robert Ashburn of the home. Two daughters cherish her memory, Mrs. Sharon (Tom) Ratcliffe of Thurmond and Mrs. Sherri (Randy) Phillips of Raleigh. She also leaves behind five beloved grandsons, Hoyt David Robertson of Elkin, Stephen Thomas Ratcliffe of Thurmond, and Robert Brent, Benjamin Hunter and Joshua Dean Phillips, all of Raleigh. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doris Wilcox of Winston-Salem; a stepsister, Mrs. Connie Wilkes; and special friends Mrs. Lee Orell, Mrs. Margie Sutton and Mike Baker.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, by the Rev. Dana Wooten. The Asburn family will receive friends after the service at the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin for the compassionate care they gave Mrs. Asburn in her final days.
