Elizabeth "Betty" Estep Shearer Ashworth, 69, died Sunday, July 3, 2011. Betty passed away peacefully at her daughter's house in Alvin after a courageous battle with kidney disease.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, John Mark Shearer. She is survived by her mother, Margaret Shearer of Baytown; brother, John Dennis Shearer of Baytown; sister, Judith Raneri of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Troy Ashworth and Michelle Smith of Baytown; daughter, Lori Ashworth of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Alison and Charles Gass Jr. of Alvin; granddaughter, Elisabeth "Libby" Gass of Alvin; nieces, Leslie Raneri and Maggie Deal, both of Houston.
Born June 18, 1942, Betty graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi and was a retired certified nurse's aide. She was a loving and kind woman who never met a stranger. She enjoyed simply sitting and talking with friends and family, and she loved to spend time with and brag about her baby granddaughter Libby. Betty touched countless lives with her selflessness and generosity. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation and gratitude to those who particularly helped Betty during her greatest time of need: Michael Bush, Callie Moore, Tina Schwartz, Fran Heighton, and Kelley Thornton Balusek.
The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Mark Robinson presiding, and interment at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathon Hicks, Daryl Hicks, Ronald Ashworth, Charles Gass Jr., Richard Childress and John Dennis Shearer.
