Anna Leona Asbury Preacher
Anna Leona Asbury, 90, a longtime preacher at the Church of God in Gaithersburg, died of a stroke Nov. 3  at her home in Gaithersburg.
Mrs. Asbury was born in Bluefield, W.Va. She moved to Frederick in 1946, then lived in Derwood for a few years before settling in Gaithersburg in the mid-1950s.
She began worshiping in brush harbor revivals, then helped start the Church of God in Gaithersburg. She preached there and at other Pentecostal churches along the East Coast into the 1990s. She also organized youth programs and held services at nursing homes.
Her husband, Robert E. Asbury, died in 1998 after 68 years of marriage.
Survivors include six children, Monte Asbury of Derwood, Ronald Asbury of Rockville, Tex Asbury of Silver Spring, Brenda Atlee of Chipley, Fla., and Carylon Haynes and Greg Asbury, both of Gaithersburg; four sisters; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
