The son of Joseph and Angelina (Leale) Aruta, he was born June 20, 1924, in New York City, was a graduate DeWitt Clinton High School, served as an MP in the United States Army during World War II, and married Ruth Lavallee, on June 12, 1954, in the Bronx.
For 35 years, Frank was an optician at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, retiring in 1982, subsequently working for several years at Sterling Optical in Kingston.
Formerly of Accord, Frank had been a resident of Hamden for the past 14 years; was a parishioner of St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church, Endwell; a member of the "25-Year Club" at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center; an avid chess and ping-pong player; fond of his pet cats; and possessed a sense of humor that sustained him, especially at difficult times, throughout his life.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ruth Aruta; two daughters and their husbands, Gabrielle and Phillip Pierce, of Treadwell, and Jeannette and Peter Grose, of Cairo; six grandchildren, Jill Ogden, Richie Larsen, Thomas Buel, Jeffrey Yazdi, Elliot Kubicek and Valerie Ferran; two great-granddaughters, Lorelei Ogden and Kaydence Rose Lehmann.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy Lehmann (2006); one brother and sister.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Jan. 22, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance, and a funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Athanasius Church, Shady Drive, Endwell. The Rev. Fr. Timothy Pfeiffer will preside, and burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
