World War II Veteran Served In The Pacific Theatre
Delmar Lawrence Arthur, Sr., 84, of Lexington, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at his home.
Mr. Arthur was born on May 6, 1921 in Bedford County, and was the last surviving child of the late Erastus Julian (Jack) Arthur and Sally Jackson Clements Arthur.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific from August 1942 to 1945 and was a member of the D.A.V.
Mr. Arthur is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Swink Arthur of Lexington; one daughter, Phyllis Arthur Carter and husband, William Carter of Lynchburg; two sons: Delmar Lawrence Arthur, Jr. and wife, Reva of Evington; and Lawrence Earl Arthur and wife, Patti, of Lynchburg; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and two step-daughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gib Hale officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, Lexington.
