William F. "Bill" Arthur, 89, of Cameron, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with David Barrett and Jim Lafferty officiating. Family visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, from at the funeral home.
Mr. Arthur was born in Itasca, Texas, to W. E. and Eula Mae (Southward) Arthur. He graduated from Itasca High School and attended Texas A&M for over three years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Mary Frances Neale on Sept. 2, 1944, in Denton, Texas. Mr. Arthur and his wife moved to Cameron in 1945, where he taught agriculture at the G.I. School until accepting a job teaching Vocational Ag at Yoe High School. In 1951, he joined Farm Bureau as the Agent in Cameron and was agent until 1976. In 1977, he went to work with the Kay Raymond Travelers Insurance Agency and worked there until his retirement, in 1990. He was a farmer and rancher in the Cameron area for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon and he was a member of San Andres Masonic Lodge in Cameron for over 65 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Sara Barrett and husband, David, of Waco, and Ann Perrin and husband, Bill, of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Mary Ann Barrett, Trey and Melissa Tipton and Laura, Greg and Thomas Perrin; and Madelyn and Taylor Tipton; brothers, Eugene Arthur and wife, Mary Ruth, of Itasca, and Grady Arthur and wife, Dorothy, of Searcy, Ark.; sisters, Eula Ruth Gard and husband, Garrett, of Spring, and Julia Ann Cleveland, of Tulsa, Okla.; brother-in-law, James Sumner, of Itasca; and sister-in-law, Margaret Arthur, of West; and many nieces and nephews.
