DR. DANIEL A. ARTER
Greensburg, Pa., May 12 - Dr. Daniel A. Arter, one of the oldest practicing physicians in Western Pennsylvania, died at his home here yesterday after several months illness. He was aged 87. Dr. Arter was the oldest member of the Masonic fraternity in Greensburg. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Royal Arcanum, and United Workmen. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and served on the board of trustees. Dr. Arter was born in Salem township, Columbiana county, O., Oct. 26, 1828. He was educatedin the public schools and graduated in 1847 from the New Lisbon (O.) academy. His medical training he received in the Cincinnati Eclectic Medical college. In the early days of his professional career, he practiced at Blairsville and Lockport, this state, and in the spring of 1851 came to Greensburg, where he opened an office and practiced continually since. In 1851, Dr. Arter married Miss Mary Jane McCune of Blairsville. She died in 1856. In 1857, Miss Caroline A. Miller became his wife. He is survived by one son, S. Marcus Arter, one daughter, Miss Elsie B. Arter, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
