Anthony J. (Tony) Arnzen of Ferdinand, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood. He was 87.

He was born Aug. 4, 1915, in Ferdinand. He was the last of seven children born to Henry and Bernadina Uhlorn Arnzen. He graduated from Ferdinand High School in 1933.

Tony married Stella M. Wimer May 23, 1939, in Cottonwood. They spent their entire married life on the Arnzen family homestead in Ferdinand, where he farmed and raised cattle. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1999. The
couple enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and visiting friends and relatives.

Tony also worked with his brothers-in-law, Walt Kinzer and John Gehring, in maintenance at Our Lady of Consolation Hospital in Cottonwood. He and his brother, Lawrence Arnzen, built the house where Tony and Stella raised their
family.

Tony was on the board of directors for Lewiston Grain Growers and then spent many enjoyable years with the "alum" group. He was a member of the Cottonwood School District Trustees for 18 years. During that time the schools of Ferdinand, Greencreek and Cottonwood consolidated into Prairie schools. Tony also gave time to the Ferdinand Cemetery District. He was a member of Assumption
Catholic Parish in Ferdinand and its Holy Names Society.

Survivors include his sons, daughters nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, Feb. 14, 2002; his parents; two brothers, Bill and Lawrence; and four sisters, Katherine Kinzer, Mary Nau, Annie Arnzen and Helen Seubert.

The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30, with the Rev. Andrew Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be held after Mass at Ferdinand Community Cemetery.

Uhlorn Funeral Home of Cottonwood is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital or the Monastery of St. Gertrude, both in Cottonwood.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Idaho County Nursing Home and the long-term care unit of St. Mary's Hospital for the excellent care given to their dad during the last two years.
