Jim Arnold, former secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union, passed away Sept. 27, 2011, at the age of 68.
He was the son of the late James Arnold Sr., former head of the Southern Nevada Building and Construction Trades Council.
In the late 1980's, Jim took over the leadership of the faltering Culinary Union Local 226 and increased the membership from a mere 18,000 to over 50,000 members. He successfully guided the organizing of the new Las Vegas hotels and casinos during the 1990's and headed the union during the six and a half year Frontier strike - the most dramatic and successful strike ever witnessed in Las Vegas and the entire country.
Jim is survived by his sons, James "J.A." Arnold and Wayne McKnight; and granddaughter, Alana McKnight and Audrey Arnold.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory can be made to Hollingsworth Elementary School, contact United Way, (702) 892-2354, or the Leukemia and Lymphomia Society.
