She was born February 6, 1924 in New York City, the daughter of Frank Liska and Marie Antonette Hluboky Liska.
She grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a predominantly Czechoslovakian neighborhood. She moved to Clinton, CT in 1937, where she babysat and cleaned house for the summer vacationers at Grove Beach. She experienced the hurricane of 1938 when many of those homes were destroyed.
In addition, she was employed by the Clinton Department Store. Mildred met Alfred Cornwell Arnold at the Candy Kitchen in Deep River and they married in 1942.
After living in Clinton briefly, they moved to Deep River, where they raised their family. Mildred was active in the Homemaker's Club and the Couple's Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and returned to work when her children were teenagers. She was employed by Chesebrough Ponds, the Lee Company, and Emergilite.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband in 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Marshall and her husband Bob, and son, Gary Arnold. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kyle and Jared Arnold, Jim Sypher, and his wife Nicole, Jill Strempel (Christopher), and her great-grandchildren, Arik, Jeffrey, and Austin Sypher.
Burial Services will be held in Fountain Hill Cemetery on February 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
