Rubye B. HAYNES GORDON

Funeral services for Rubye B. HAYNES GORDON were held June 19 at the First Baptist Church of Wetumka with Rev. Mark BRIGHT officiating.

She was born Oct. 17, 1908 in Dustin to Ralph ARNOLD and Mary MELTON ARNOLD and died June 15 at the Golden Rule Nursing Home in Shawnee at the age of 93.

Mr. GORDON lived all of her life in the area around Dustin and Wetumka. She grew up0 in the Big Prairie community and attended grade school there. She received a high school diploma from the Dustin school system.

On May 3, 1933, she was united in marriage to Carol HAYNES in the Dustin First Baptist Church. A daughter, Millie Rue, was born to this union on Nov. 17, 1935, and a son was stillborn on July 5, 1944. Mr. HAYNES preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1964 at the age of 55.

On Feb. 5, 1974, she was married to Ollie GORDON in the Atoka Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1989.

Mrs. GORDON attended college at Central State University in Edmond and received an elementary teaching certificate. Later, she received a bachelor of science degree in education from East Central University of Ada.

She began her teaching career in the Hughes county elementary grades, teaching at Carson, Pleasant View, Fairview and later Prairie View in Okfuskee county. In 1945 she accepted a position with the Wetumka school system and taught 28 years in the elementary grades. In the 1968 and 1969 term she was elected as teacher of the year for Hughes county. In 1972 she retired after teaching 39 years. Mrs. GORDON loved the children and enjoyed teaching them.

Mrs. GORDON surrendered her life to Jesus when she was 17 years of age at the Big Prairie Baptist Church and later joined the First Baptist Church in Wetumka in 1945. She taught the third and fourth grade boys and girls in Sunday School several years. She also sang in the church choir many years.

She was a charter member of the Wetumka Hyechka Music Club, was a member of the Wetumka Garden Club and a member of the Oklahoma Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were oil painting, quilting and sewing.

Mrs. GORDON was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.

Survivors include a daughter, Millie Rue BOYD of Shawnee; two step-sons, Jim GORDON of Sacramento, Ca. and Scott GORDON of Salt Lake City, Ut.; a s5tep-daughter, Teddy Ruth COOK of Portland, Or.; four grandsons, two step-grandsons, six granddaughters, a step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Marc POOLE, Vic POOLE, Jeff POOLE, Sean BOYD, Bobby BOYD, Ben HAYNES, Steve HAYNES and Jim BOERSTLER.

Interment was in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
